Staff fundraising helps in-house homeless charity - 24 May 17

Photo: L to R: Kim Whitsey, Michelle King and Mairead Wright. Vulnerable and homeless people who access help and support through a housing association-run charity will receive an extra boost thanks to the fundraising efforts of employees.

Staff based at Axiom Housing Association raised nearly £500 for its Axiom Homeless Action (AHA) charity by holding a variety of events over the past 12 months.

Fundraising initiatives included dress-down days, raffles and activities including walking, swimming, climbing and dancing as part of Axiom’s ‘Every Step Counts’ programme.

Kim Whitsey, who devised the programme, said: “We wanted to ensure fundraising was enjoyable while improving staff fitness and wellbeing.”

Mairead Wright, who is chair of Axiom’s Staff Consultative Group that coordinates the fundraising added: “In addition to this money we also raised £648 for Peterborough’s Little Miracles charity to fund training for two bereavement counsellors to support local families who have lost a child.”

AHA is a registered charity established in 2007 to provide good, quality and targeted support for homeless people in local communities.

Funds are raised to deliver a range of practical measures aimed at assisting homeless people in re-building their lives.

The money raised by employees’ efforts will go towards providing food parcels, starter furniture packs, help with transport as well as supporting those looking for employment with clothing for attending job interviews.
