Reaccreditation recognises Axiom’s commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion - 15 Sep 17
The commitment of employees, residents and stakeholders of Axiom Housing Association in promoting equality, diversity and inclusion has been recognised by the National Centre for Diversity.
Axiom’s Investors in Diversity (IiD) journey started in 2011 when it underwent a series of diagnostic surveys and an induction to the standard.
The Peterborough-based organisation first successfully achieved IiD Stage 2 in the summer of 2013 and has continued to deliver and demonstrate its commitment through its strategic plan.
Accreditation lasts two years with organisations being assessed at the end of this period in order to retain the standard. Axiom was re-accredited in 2015 and the most recent assessment in June, means it will retain the accreditation until 2019.
The assessment looks at the work Axiom does with its staff, residents, service users and stakeholders through its work with local businesses and community groups. As well as reviewing relevant policies and procedures an assessor interviews a cross-section of representatives from these groups.
Assessor, Asari St.Hill, said: "Axiom’s commitment to engaging staff, tenants and contractors is clear and improving. There are a wide range of forums and groups to ensure that tenants are involved in reviewing its practices.”
The surveys completed by staff and external stakeholders highlighted that 97 per cent of employees think the people they work with are accepting of other people regardless of their background. While 100% of stakeholders agreed that Axiom was clear in communicating how important equality, diversity and inclusion was to them.”
Charmaine Simei, Assistant Director of Operations at Axiom, said: "We're delighted to have been reaccredited with the IiD Stage 2 award.
“Our services are built upon supporting some of the most vulnerable people in society and we take our responsibilities very seriously.
"We firmly believe that equality, diversity and inclusion should be at the heart of our business. We do this by engaging with and ensuring that everyone, including our employees, board members, residents and stakeholders understand this."
